Koh Mak

A secret island waiting to be discovered, Koh Mak sits on the far eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. Approximately 350 kilometers away from the capital city – Bangkok, and 35 kilometers from the mainland, just only 50 minutes by speedboat. Koh Mak is the third biggest island in Trat province, after Koh Chang and Koh Kood. It is a small, tropical island with the area of 16 square. kilometer. The island has a circumference of 27 kilometers.


Lucky for travelers, Koh Mak will most likely be able to keep its paradise status, as the owners of the island are determined not to let too many hotels and nightlife spots enter the island and spoil its natural beauty. There are approximately 40 resorts on Koh Mak. The island’s stunningly white sandy beaches with crystal clear water. It’s suitable for both adults and children. Koh Mak is small and flat with coconut plantations and mangrove vegetation along the coastline. Nowadays Koh Mak has something for everyone, from cheap bamboo backpacker huts to a variety of mid range bungalow resorts and upmarket boutique establishments. No wonder that because of beautiful beaches and crystal clear water in October 2006 the Sunday Times newspaper included Koh Mak in its list of the world’s ”Top 10 Secret Beaches”.
